On March 19, my Uncle Harry Steffens (Leelanau County) called me up and asked me to drive to Washington D.C. to attend the huge Tea Party rally the next day. We were hoping we could influence Congress to NOT take over the health care system in America under Obamacare. Here are a few pics from that trip,.

Iosco County Fair

Joined U.S. Navy out of high school

      Trained as Navy Journalist (broadcasting speciality)

       Assisgned to various ships and shore duty assignments, performing duties as:
              Station manager for closed circuit TV station aboard USS Hoel (DDG-13 and USS Proteus (AS-19)
              Public Affairs Petty Officer aboard USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67)
              Public Affairs Petty Officer for Navy Recruiting Districts in Louisville, KY and Houston, TX
              News Director, on-air anchor, radio DJ and Program Director at Navy Broadcast Service Detachment, Adak, AK

       Served 12+ years active duty: Honorably discharged

Worked as DJ for northern Michigan radio station

Moved to newspaper work for Roscommon County Herald-News

       Editor of Roscommon County Herald-News for just over four years

In 1999, made career change to information technology.

       Started with Concentric Network Systems in Saginaw as DSL Support Technician
       Started current job with County of Roscommon as Mapping Coordinator in Sept. 1999

              Managed and improved county GIS program
              Created IT Department, currently Director of Information Technology for county

PERSONAL:

Married 14 years to my beautiful wife, Pat. Proud step-father to four great sons and grandfather to four terrific grandchildren.
      Education

   While in the Navy, I took advantage of many educational opportunities available.

   I enrolled in and completed classes at:
   San Diego Community College;
    Tidewater Community College in Chesapeake, VA;
    McKendree College in Louisville, KY; and,
    The University of Alaska, Anchorage campus (Adak extension).

In addition I have several college credits from CLEP and GRE exams.

   Professionally, I have completed these courses and received certification:

   (U.S. Navy) Defense Information School (Journalist, Public Relations)
   (U.S. Navy) Leadership and Management Education Training;
   (County) CompTIA A+
   (County) CompTIA Network+
   (County) IBM iSeries operator

    Though I have not put it all together to claim a specific degree, I feel my continued education has been a benefit to me. Continued education is very important.
