On March 19, my Uncle Harry Steffens (Leelanau County) called me up and asked me to drive to Washington D.C. to attend the huge Tea Party rally the next day. We were hoping we could influence Congress to NOT take over the health care system in America under Obamacare. Here are a few pics from that trip,.

Iosco County Fair

The unemployment rate in the 103^rd District is just unacceptable. The average for the 103^rd District is 19.7% for January 2010

Missaukee County:    19.5%
Ogemaw County:      16.9%
Iosco County:          23%

Michigan, as a whole, has an unemployment rate of 14.6% (unemployment figures for Jan. 2010).

No only do we need direct jobs here in the 103^rd District, we need to get the rest of Michigan working, also. That is job ONE when I get to Lansing.

Reduce level of government
The current level of government seems out of control. We need to trim back to a size that will be supported by a minimal tax base. I believe that a government needs to stay the size that the tax base will support, not increase the tax base to support more government. When times are tough like this, we can't increase burdens on taxpayers and businesses. We need to lessen burdens to increase private spending and job creation so people can start working again and earning a living to care for their family.

Maintain the best education system possible
The future of any civilization is in its children. It is our charge as parents to raise our children to be thoughtful, responsible citizens. We can make use of schools, churches and extended family to accomplish that. When it comes to the educational system, state government needs to ensure a curriculum that is fair and challenging to all students. Education, the labor market and the success of our Great State of Michigan are all integrally tied together.

Right to Life
I am PRO-LIFE. End of Debate. God provides us with the most wonderful of all gifts - children. We need to do all we can to welcome these precious gifts into the world and give them a healthy, loving home life to grow and thrive in. Whether that home is with the birth parents or adoptive parents is a personal choice.

2nd Amendment - I support the right to bear arms
The framers of our constitution knew how important it was for American citizens to be their own armed militia. We have enjoyed that right for 233 years and there is no need to impede it now.
